FlatEarth Adventures complies with Ecotourism
FlatEarth Adventures belongs to the growing number of companies contributing to the focus on ecotourism. The company has a unique location on the border of the Hardangervidda National Park which is Northern Europe’s most extensive highland plateau and Norway’s largest national park. The National Park is an exceedingly valuable highland area. It is home to the largest herds of wild reindeer in Europe and is the southernmost habitat of the snow owl, the Arctic fox and other rare species of Arctic flora and fauna. Literally, right outside the door of FlatEarth Adventures, you can also find 3 salmon rivers, Hardangerfjorden, The Queen of Fjords, with it's breathtaking steep mountain walls. A little further away you find the amazing glaciers Folgefonna and Hardangerjøkulen as well as the most famous waterfall in Norway, the spectacular Vøringfoss.
The founders of FlatEarth Adventures know the area intimately and they honestly love this country. Eidfjord in Hardanger offers a unique range of possibilities as a destination for outdoor activities at one spot, which is almost impossible to beat. FlatEarth offers activity based experiences for pre-booked groups as well as individual travellers both alert to unique quality, history and special character of this spot.
FlatEarth Adventures makes a great effort to conduct the business in an environmentally-responsible manner. This means using low energy lightening, leaving nothing on standby, recycle glass and cans. In the aim to minimize waste of paper, FlatEarth corresponds with the customers via email as much as possible.
Another important thing to be mentioned is the use of bikes as the mean of transportation which helps to minimize pollution of the air. FlatEarth also offers rental of the bikes which make life easier for the tourists who intend to visit all these spectacular places without
polluting the air by a fuel driven vehicle.
One of the activities provided by FlatEarth is a hike to Troll Foot Mountain. It is a full day trip where you follow old animal tracks, climb on the top of the hill, and listen to the stories told by your guide about the animal life here, variety of flora and other unique stories which make you feel part of this astonishing place and get to know it better. This unique experience has been enabled by the owners of FlatEarth, as they restored the old track all the way up to the hill, marked it and they keep maintaining it, as the track had not been
accessible for the tourists before.
FlatEarth Adventures also arranges projects for children and students on how to get to know and preserve the nature. The students are staying at the camp sites only a few hundred meters away, making day trips in the area, hiking in the National Park and participating in all other activities to contribute to their environmental awareness.
Every guided activity with FlatEarth is accompanied by information about the local environment, wildlife, culture, traditions so that the customers have obtained not only the experience but also knowledge.
And last but not least is the participation of FlatEarth in local traditional festivals of food, flowers etc where FlatEarth provides its sources and effort to make them happen which contributes to respect local culture and build up valuable relationship with the local community.
For the customers, choosing an ecotourism holiday is not only a positive ethical choice, but is also a reassurance that they will be visiting an area where the local environment is cared for, enhancing their pleasure of the visit. Whatever the initial reason for choosing an ecotourism holiday, there are significant benefits both in terms of the environmental impact of holiday and in enjoyment of the holiday experience.
